This book gave me such spooky vibes and I was there for it.

Wild and Wicked Things was first published in March of 2022 but I only picked it up in 2024...A horrible oversight, I assure you.

The author (Francesca May) brings a lovely, almost surreal feeling to her writing. I often found myself smelling the salt of the sea or feeling the ominous breeze that she wrote about and I would definitely recommend this book or author to anyone who would listen.

The book is set in the aftermath of world war I and follows a young woman who travels to an isolated and peculiar island to sort out her late father's estate.

When she arrives she stays at a small cottage on the property of a very popular and infamous house which seems to be frowned upon by almost everyone who she speaks to but the group of mysterious strangers with enticing smiles that live there are just too intriguing for her to ignore.

This decision that Annie makes leads to many incredible adventures and perils which she soon comes to realize are a part of her soul just as she is a part of this island and through this realization she begins to understand her father and herself a bit more.

The book will have you looking for crows in the trees and savoring the breeze that comes with the rain. You might have an overwhelming need to buy crystals of every shape and size and salt in bulk.

There are twists and turns that you would never expect, fear and bravery are meted out in equal measure and when it is over, you will wish you had been there for real.

"I've watched my family crumble and not been able to do anything about it. People don't think of us as being human. They don't care if we live and live well as long as their needs are fulfilled" -Emmeline

Wild and Wicked Things is a book about becoming who you were always meant to be, about doing the right thing even when it becomes difficult and feeling the power that only a witch could experience.

Goodreads gives it 3.41 stars but I gave it 4 stars because it was so beautifully written and it just contained so much between its pages. The author is expected to release another book this year that is described as a dark gothic fantasy about intoxication, obsession and the desperate hunger for knowledge.

Keep a look out for This Vicious Hunger by Francesca May and know that you will not regret it.

Thanks for reading xx
