Today I'm going to appeal to the child in each of us as well us our need for adventure.
I'm going to be talking about Disney's 2009 animation that was based on the classic fairy tale The Princess and the Frog as well as the city that it is based in, New Orleans.
WARNING: There may be some spoilers if you haven't watched the movie yet.
So sit back and lend me your imagination.
First off I would like to say that this is one of my favorite remakes that Disney has done so far along with Tangled and Frozen of course but unfortunately I will have to talk about those another time. The Princess and the Frog is a lovely story about a hard working Tiana, who just wants to save enough money to open up a restaurant of her own to make her daddy proud. Her dreams are dashed sooner than you'd expect and so she turns to her best friend Charlotte's approved manner of wishing on the evening star to get what she wants as it always seems to work for her.

Of course this does not work but a talking frog does appear and scare her half witless. He explains that he has been cursed by a voodoo doctor who promised him the life that he wanted and when he begs the princess masquerading Tiana to kiss him she obliges on the pretense that he is a wealthy prince and will give her the money for her restaurant. Unfortunately for the both of them, since Tiana is not in fact a real princess, the kiss doesn't work and she too gets turned into a frog.
They embark on an epic journey into the bayou where they make new friends, escaping death or capture many times and determine to become human again with the help of a blind voodoo lady who lives deep in the swamp.

This is such a beautiful story about appreciating what you have and not always needing money to be happy but coupled with the rich culture and jazz that is played throughout the movie to highlight New Orleans, I doubt I would have enjoyed it as much.
The night life of New Orleans is reputed to be an entirely new experience for anyone who has not experienced it before. Of course it has to have an enigmatic night life due the fact that jazz was born in New Orleans as well and continues to be a vital part of the culture.
I for one would love to experience this amazing city, be it before or after dark, just because of the people and the music.
Let me know what you think of this movie or city.
Thanks for reading xx
