Practical Magic is a book that was written by Alice Hoffman and published in 1995.
It was adapted into a film in 1998 by Warner Bros. Studio, directed by Griffin Dunne and starring acting legends like Sandra Bullock, Nicole Kidman and Dianne Wiest.
I haven't seen the movie yet but considering what I read in the book it must be one hell of a film!

Practical Magic is more or less centered on the young Owens sisters, Sally and Gillian, as they face growing up without parents and the trappings of desire and love.
The novel starts off with the girls living in their mysterious aunts house and discovering that they may be descended from witches as the rest of the town believes them to be. They are teased horribly for most of their lives by their peers and anything that goes wrong in the town is blamed on the Owens'.
As they grow up, Sally becomes the kind of woman that you can always count on, the kind of woman that will always do the right thing and Gillian runs away with a young man to get married, one of a string of bad marriages.

Eventually Sally marries and has two little girls, Antonia and Kylie, before her husband tragically dies. She decides to move away to a place where nobody will realize how odd she and her daughters are and they can all live a normal life. Not long after her sister shows up out of the blue, with a very big problem and begs her dependable sister to help her.
This book really pulled me in, in such a way that I could barely put it down. The characters are described well and their feelings can almost be felt along with them as you sink deeper into their world.
To me, this story was really about the troubles and happiness that love can bring you and that if you have a good sister you had better treat her right because if you do, she will always be there to help you when you need her.
Definitely would recommend, with a pinch of salt as there is some vulgar language in small doses.
Thanks for reading xx
