My Top 5 Quotes

Quoting other people has often been seen as a mark of intelligence which I used to find odd until I read some truly beautiful and insightful quotes.

Here are my five favorites.

1: "I love you, most ardently"

This quote is said by Mr. Darcy to Elizabeth Bennet in Pride and Prejudice but not before he first insulted her and basically said her family sucks.

Why do I find it romantic?

Because even though his head told him he shouldn't and even though he had found literally every reason not to, he still loved her and wished to marry her.

I think that is quite profound as it reflects how we should love, not despite the flaws but sometimes because of them.

2: “Freely we serve. Because we freely love, as in our will to love or not; in this we stand or fall.”

This one I found in City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare but it was originally written by John Milton in his book Paradise Lost.

I really like this quote because it speaks to me.

This sounds incredibly vague, because it is, but I feel like he is trying to tell us that we love freely because without love we would fall.

This could of course just be my own interpretation but that is the beauty of books, we can each take away what we want from them.

3: "Your now is not your forever"

This quote is from John Green's book Turtles All The Way Down. I read this book in a matter of hours while on a bus and it hit me so hard I actually had to stop and stare out the window for a bit to realize that I was still in reality.

This is beautiful because I think we sometimes forget that no matter how terrible our circumstances are right now they almost always will get better.

It may be dark now but it cannot rain forever.

4: "Why fit in when you were born to stand out?"

I know this is weird but I adore this quote by Dr. Seuss.

I am a strong believer that we were all meant to be different and that we should embrace our differences, our strengths and weakness cannot be the same or we wouldn't never achieve anything.

I am a short, annoying and loud person but I can write quite well (I think) and I often find wonder in the smallest of objects.

My sister is tall, quiet and kind and she is amazing at painting and caring for others. An area where I sorely lack.

We can never expect to be the same as anyone else and likewise we should not want to be.

Flaunt your weirdness because you never know who may love the person that you hide.

5: "Everything you've heard, about monsters, about nightmares, legends whispered around the campfires...all the stories are true."

This quote is from City of Bones also by Cassandra Clare and I love it because of the intense magnitude of it how magical and terrifying it would be.

I may be twenty-three and largely a realistic human being just like everyone else but I still believe in fairies, mermaids and other creatures that nobody has ever seen.

This sounds weird but I desperately want to believe in magic.

They say those who don't believe in magic will never find it and I am not willing to take that chance.
