It is such a lovely story that should definitely be watched alongside Disney. Anyone who enjoyed the golden age of Disney, Alice in Wonderland etc will love the animation style and the story.

WARNING: There may be spoilers.

Howl's Moving Castle came out in 2004 and has recently been added onto #Netflix.

The story centers around Sophie, a hatter in a small town, and Howl a great and powerful wizard that lives in the wastes, who meet per chance on a side street in Sophie's home town. She doesn't realize that it is the feared wizard who's castle is continuously moving on the mountains just outside of her town until much later but allows him to rescue her from the rowdy soldiers who are crowding the village, responding to a call to arms from their king who is accused of stealing a neighboring kingdoms prince.

Unfortunately for Sophie, she meets the Witch of the Waste who notices that she has met Howl and curses her to be an old woman and not be able to speak of her curse so that Sophie has to flee her home in favor of the wastes.

She meets an enchanted scarecrow which she nicknames Turnip Head since he cannot speak and he leads her to Howl's castle where she decides to stay as a cleaning lady and help Calcifer, the fire demon who moves the castle, and Marukuru who is Howl's young apprentice.

Together this unlikely family must fight in a war between two opposing kingdoms as well as escape the clutches of their various curses and the Witch of the Waste.

It is such a lovely story which shows children and, apparently, adults alike that you cannot live without a heart and that love will indeed conquer all.

It sort of reminds me of a Japanese Beauty and the Beast but with a lot more magic and witty comebacks that will make you laugh out loud.

Definitely a must watch on my list.

Thanks for reading xx
