Frankenstein is a classic gothic novel that was written by Mary Shelley when she was just nineteen years old but her name only appeared on the novel for the second editions when they were published in Paris.

The novel was written in 1818 and it was was also known as "The modern Prometheus". It was quite a controversial book because of the references to galvanism, which was quite popular during that time.

Frankenstein is actually the name of the scientist that creates The Monster.

Viktor Frankenstein is a content child until his beloved mother dies of a terrible sickness and all his happiness is swallowed up. He has always been a curious child so with the death of his mother he decides to leave his father and adoptive cousin to go and study in a foreign country. While he is there he begins to experiment with galvanism and he eventually succeeds in creating a living creature.

Stunned and disgusted by how ugly his creature is, Frankenstein flees the scene and leaves The Monster to discover the world for himself, this obviously does not go well.

The Monster roams the wilderness searching for warmth, food and love but never seems to find the last one regardless of how kind or caring he is to the humans, he then decides that humans are vile creatures and not to be trusted and he begins to seek out his creator in order to force him to make a creature just like him to while away his life with.

Meanwhile, Frankenstein has been devastated by his younger brothers death, all the while fearing that he knows who the culprit is, Elizabeth (his cousin), is distraught when her friend and hand maiden is accused of the murder of the young boy and then put to death although she pleas innocent.

Frankenstein's worst fears are confirmed when The Monster finds him and demands that he create his familiar in order to keep the rest of his family safe. Frankenstein agrees and goes away with his friend Cavill, in order to create the abomination but at the last minute he decides against it, which results in the death of his best friend. Hopeless and heartbroken, Frankenstein returns home and agrees to marry Elizabeth despite warnings from The Monster that he will be with them on their wedding night.

In the end Frankenstein brings about the destruction of his entire living family all because of his disgust that he ignorantly directed towards the creature that he made.

I honestly believe that if Frankenstein had of stayed and taught The Monster how to behave and live as a human being then he would have turned out completely different and Frankenstein would never have had to deal with the heart break and loss that he experienced.

It was however, a rather good book despite me taking forever to read it. I find old English difficult to read sometimes but I would definitely still recommend this book to anyone because it has a very good message.

Thanks for reading xx
