This book took me forever to read and it was the weirdest thing because it was a great book. It had controversial thoughts and themes as well as interesting and descriptive writing and yet I could just not read it.
Eleven Minutes is a reference to a thought that Maria has in the book where she wonders why somebody would be willing to throw away so much for a measly eleven minutes of pleasure. I tend to agree with her in this and even though her actions were clearly not the best choice, her reasons make a whole lot of sense in the grand scheme of things.

Eleven Minutes is a book that was written by Paulo Coelho and published in 2003 in Brazil, the book was originally written in Portuguese but translates amazingly well to English.
I loved this book because of the mature way that they discussed sex and love, not as if it is a taboo (Since she is a prostitute) but in a way that everyone can understand.
I often feel like many people are mislead as to what is needed for sex and I liked the way that this book described it, even though Maria was a prostitute and knew everything there was to know about sex she never enjoyed it nor particularly liked it until she found someone that she cared for. It really is not worth it without someone that you love, the feelings make up a lot.
Just to be clear, the book isn't about sex.
It is about relationships, love, the world and choices.
The author perfectly described what it is like to be a young woman in a new city and how to get around speaking to people who are intellectually stronger than oneself. I for one noticed that Maria progressed from trying to sound smart to instead asking as many questions as she possibly could because she realized that that was how one learns.
I think all young adults should read this book purely for the way that they teach you about what is important in a relationship but if that isn't enough then you can also read it for how the world works and how people think because it portrays that perfectly as well.
Thanks for reading xx
