Warning: For season one
Beastars is an anime that is licensed by Netflix and has one season with 12 episodes with the second set to air in 2021. It has a mature rating of 16+.
One of my room mates recommended it since it is quite short and odd and I am relatively new to watching anime.
Let me tell you, they were not wrong about the odd part...

During the first episode we are introduced to the world of Beastars which gets its name from the in-universe rank which refers to individuals with extraordinary talent. The universe revolves around humanoid animals who are divided between herbivore and carnivore in a sort of racism I guess.
Episode one addresses a herbivore that was devoured by a carnivore at the school in a brutal attack which makes all the other herbivores nervous, they then suggest that the main character might be the culprit but so far, I don't see it. Throughout the series there is conflict between the different species based on their diets and it really shows you how prejudiced people, and apparently animals, can be.

The current Beastar is Rouis, a great red deer who is very proud and drives the drama club to do their best at every performance, he doesn't seem to like Legoshi, possibly because of how kind and non threatening he is for a carnivore. We meet our main character, Legoshi, who is an introverted grey wolf with not one evil bone in his whole body. Legoshi discovers that he has an actual instinct when he smells a white rabbit and attacks it, almost eating it. Haru is a dwarf rabbit that isn't respected for anything because of her size and so lashes out at everyone in a very unique way, earning her a bit of a reputation which confuses Legoshi when he first meets her.
Somehow the three of them are connected and Legoshi tries his best to show that not all carnivores are the same.
I really liked the animations as well as the plot, even if it was a bit odd, and I cannot wait for the next season.
Think of it like an anime Beauty and the Beast.
Thanks for reading xx
