The Music of Your Soul

Have you ever listened to a song and your first thought was: "Wow."?

Or you had to close your eyes and just kind of let it flow over you?

Let's all be honest with ourselves...Sometimes the only thing that can help us see a little hope on the horizon is blasting our favorite song and singing along.

Maybe you like rap, pop, heavy metal or possibly even classical music, nonetheless you have had that feeling before, the one where you can feel the music in your soul.

When you can feel that beat in your bones and the melody in your lungs, that's when you've found the music that speaks to your soul and maybe not everyone likes that song but that's alright because it's your song.

It's the song that dries your tears, the song that makes you smile or laugh, the song that makes you get up and dance, the song that revives your motivation.

Sometimes we leave behind songs that used to mean the world to us in favor of newer ones but the old jams will still bring a wistful smile to our lips or maybe a chuckle and a shake of the head at memories that float out of them.

The thing is, songs are not just songs. They are like time machines, they can transport us to a place that we may have otherwise forgotten. They can take us out of the darkness, they can remind us why we liked them in the first place and how they made us feel.

As an angst ridden teen once told me: "I like music because I can drown it and still breathe comfortably. I can ignore the world and live in my own personal wonderland and the best part is that I don't have to move a muscle, maybe just close my eyes and drift away on the tunes."

Regardless of what you like or don't like, music brings us all together and makes us shine just a little bit brighter.

I personally don't care about the genre of music, I like what I like, but if I had to describe my genre then I would call it the music that speaks to my soul. The songs that remind me of who I am and who I used to be and just how far I've come.

Let me know what your favorite songs are in the comments.
