January Blues

Did you know that January has 40 weeks?

If you didn't you're probably still in high school...

Or you're lucky enough to not feel the pinch.

To many people, January is the longest month of the year, for most, because we celebrated being alive in December.

We visited all our loving family, we bought ridiculously expensive and unnecessary presents, we ate and drank too much and we were merry and most years we over do it a bit.

This creates a January of very long days and very dry bread.

I feel like I am on week two.

I have less than 100 left in my bank account.

We ran out of coffee this morning...

I think I might cry tomorrow.

I ate my last Christmas fruit mince pie yesterday, it tasted like a specific brand of joy but it left a bitter taste in my mouth when I realized that I had to wait an entire eleven months before I could taste that type of joy again.

January is always regarded as the start to so many things but it is also an end.

We should mourn that end even while we prepare to build on the ashes that it leaves behind.

We build on the blocks of previous years and we tell ourselves that this year will be different, maybe it will be, but only if we work to make it different.

Without us to move it forward, it will remain as it always has been, the same or perhaps even mildly disappointing.

January has 40 weeks,

40 weeks of opportunities to do better,

to enjoy the little things,

40 weeks of hope.

So don't let the January blues get you down.

This is our year.

(For real this time.)

Thanks for reading xx
