Teddy Bears

As a child I always had an abundance of stuffed toys and I have found that they are one of the few things from my childhood that I just cannot part with.

I just did some research on teddy bears and I was not disappointed at all.

The first teddy bear was created in November of 1902 when a cartoonist heard the story of Theodore Roosevelt who had had a tough day of hunting but when his assistants presented him with a black bear that they had tied up for him to shoot, he refused based on the fact that it would be unsportsmanlike, so the cartoonist made this cartoon which a stuffed toy maker saw and was then struck by inspiration and he and his wife decided to make the first ever teddy bear. The name comes from a misconception as they were originally called "Teddy's Bear"

So there's your history lesson for today.

I personally am very grateful to them because I absolutely adore my teddies, whether they are actual teddies or just a stuffed animal. Your stuffed toys share your joy and your sorrow, they protect you from the monsters that live in the darkness and they wipe away your tears. Some symbolize stages in your life, while others are tokens of love shown by people who gave them to you for comfort.

I am twenty three and I currently sleep with two stuffed toys on my bed. They protect me and love me, they watch over me as I sleep and they are great huggers.

I've always found it odd that one of the first things that people give up as they grow is their teddies, why would you give up that comfort? Why would you give up the earliest memory of warmth and love?

I still have every single stuffed toy that was ever given to me, ranging from a toy dog that my mother bought for me before I was even born to a My Little Pony which one of my moms got me. I love every single one of them and I hope that one day I can pass them on to someone that I love who I know will love them just as much as I did, until then they will reside on my bed and my shelf and they will watch over me, silently, just as they always have and they will comfort me when nobody else can and I will love them for that.

Thanks for reading xx
