Subnautica is an open world survival action game which was developed and published by Unknown Worlds Entertainment and it has a 10/10 on Steam.

The game revolves around your character who has crash landed the Aurora on an alien planet that seems almost completely covered in water. You then have to dive into the watery depths and acquire different materials to build new materials and habitats all while staying hydrated, feeding yourself and avoiding the terrifying sea creatures that seem intent on eating you. I have played a total of five hours, not because I don't enjoy it but because it is so well made that I start getting anxiety if I play with my earphones due to all the ambient sounds coming from the creatures as well as the ocean itself. The reefs look amazing, as do the animals, regardless of how much some of them want to eat me.

So far I have, luckily, not encountered any leviathan class creatures. I am greatly thankful for that fact as I have watched some of my friends play this game and trust me, you do not want to come into contact with some of those monsters. Right now, my nemesis are the sand sharks and the stalkers which, to me, look like giant dragon-snake things which live up to their names by stalking you and then biting you. If you have a knife or a sea-glide then they aren't much of a problem since you could probably kill them or swim away. I try to avoid them anyway though since they have already killed me once by ganging up on me and sneaking up on me while I was swimming through the seaweed forests.

Something that I found a bit difficult but which is rather clever is that the game never explicitly tells you what to do, instead it leads you in the correct direction which gives you the illusion of having discovered it yourself. I quite like finding things out for myself but as a new gamer that can be a bit frustrating so I am very glad that I have my friends to help me when I get stuck.
All in all, it is a beautiful game with ambient noises that will make you wish you could play it in mute but overall add to the games experience. Easily one of the scariest games that I have ever played but totally worth it when you get to make your own habitat and avoid those terrible beasties.
Thanks for reading xx
