Hollow Knight is an action-adventure metroidvania game. (Metroidvania is a sub series of video games like Castelvania and Metroid and the games usually use the same design and mechanics as the previously mentioned two.) The game has a 10/10 on Steam as well as 90% on Metacritic.

The game is 2D, it was published by Team Cherry and released in 2017. The game takes place in Hallownest while the player controls the Hollow Knight who explores the underground world defeating insect like monsters and bosses and collecting 'soul' to regenerate his own health.

The player can acquire new cloaks and swords for the knight as the game progresses as well as new soul holders.

The plot is about the knight who arrives in Dirtmouth and seeks to adventure into Hallownest where the residents are slowly being overcome by the Infection which drives them mad and changes them into deformed insect like things. So far I have encountered beetle and mosquito like creatures both of which have killed me multiple times and are definitely to be killed or avoided.

You can also meet non-player characters that sell things as well as give you information on the game and the lore.

The lore is super interesting and kind of creepy but I think a lot of people would enjoy it.

The game also has multiple endings all depending on the player and the sequence in which they choose to fight the end boss.

There is also a sequel called Hollow Knight: Silksong and when it is released the kickstarter backers of the original game will receive it for free.

I haven't played that far but I really like the art style as well as the way the game explains what is happening. It is insanely difficult though, possibly just because I'm not particularly good at games but then again, it could also just be difficult. I personally prefer third person games since the fps games freak me out and are a bit too immersive so this game is fun for me despite dying every few hundred meters, however I would not recommend it to any newbies as constantly dying can get a bit frustrating and discourage new players.

Thanks for reading xx
