Rain

Chile is the country that gets the lowest average rainfall per year by 0,076cm.
Columbia gets the highest with 324cm per year. This raises the question, why do some places get more than others?
Now, I have almost no idea how to explain the science side of this, so I'm not even going to try, instead I'd like to talk about a place that doesn't get rain and how it affects those who live there, specifically where I live.

Where I grew up it used to rain almost constantly.
It would storm for days and rain for weeks, the grass and trees were always green and I despised the rain.
There was just too much of it.
When I was fourteen we moved to a different province, one where it didn't rain so often, if at all, and I learnt.
I learnt that rain is a blessing.
I learnt that in this place there are people who pray for rain and I learnt that it is precious.
Every single drop is a miracle and since I've lived here even the smell of rain excites me.
I don't mind if my laundry gets wet, if my glasses need wipers or even if the house has muddy footprints trailing through it.
I don't mind any of it because it means that it's raining.
Here, where I live, rain can mean many things to many different people but to me it means life, happiness and hope.
Without rain, we cannot live for more than a few days and I think we often forget that.
That's why I love the rain now.
It makes me hope.
Thanks for reading xx
